Sportfishing in Nosara

Black Marlin Sportfishing The Nosara Coast is the site of some of the best fishing in the world. One of the reasons the Nosara area is so good for fishing is due to the 100 fathom ledge bending in towards the beach. This bend in the 100 fathom curve brings the blue water and its species of fish very close to the beach. Also, tends to hold the blue water species of fish in the Nosara area for the greater part of the year.

Mahi Mahi Sportfishing This close proximity to the blue water shortens your travel time and therefore your costs less; virtually none of your fishing time is wasted in transit...you can fish all day! Finally, this fertile fishing ground has little commercial pressure and the prevailing ocean currents brings lots of bait fish to the area.

While most of the other sport fishing boats out are making the 50 mile run from Los Suenos to the South or 40 miles out of Flamingo and Tamarindo to get to the deep water, we are about 3.5 miles from the best fishing in the Nosara area. All these factors combine to give you the angling experience of a lifetime at a reasonable cost with Fishing Nosara.

Q - What is FishingNosara.com's mission in Costa Rica?

A - To dispel the myth that Costa Rican fishing only consists of unsafe boats, shady crews, and poor tackle. FishingNosara.com is made up of professional crews with decades of experience on the water and provides them with cutting-edge equipment, tackle, and logistical support. It is our goal to provide our clients with the fishing trip of a lifetime at an economical price. Furthermore we are the only charter fishing company in the area to provide office services, logistical support, and family-style service on shore as well as on the boat.

Q - Why use FishingNosara.com?

A - First off, we feature the most experienced local Captains in the area. Also our on-shore support staff is here to help you get all the proper information you need to make the correct choice of boat and Captain, process your paperwork, and pay in a safe and secure manner. Our staff can support you in Costa Rica with transportation, supplies, and last-minute problem solving. Finally, our service continues after you're return to shore...FishingNosara.com can recommend local restaurants, lodging arrangements, and other attractions, plus provide transportation to and from the airports.

Q - Does FishingNosara.com own the boats?

A - No, each boat is owned by different parties. However, Reel Deal, Nice 'n Tight, and Cabo are owned by their respective Captains.

Q - How much does FishingNosara.com get paid?

A - The Captains pay us a small 10% commission that is split between the US representative and the Costa Rican office staff. This covers promotional, professional, and logistical overhead while keeping the bulk of the money with the Captains and crew.

Q - Why does the US representative do all this work?

A - FishingNosara.com provides exposure to Nosara Paradise Rentals, a vacation village also owned by the US representatives. It's our hope that our fishing clients will also want to enjoy the 'Pura Vida' style rental homes in our village. Also, the Captains and crews have a very difficult job maintaining their boats in this tough environment; we provide the logistical support to enable the crews to perform on the water.

Anti Sea Sickness Q - What about seasickness?

A - At the FishingNosara.com Costa Rica office you can purchase the best anti-seasickness system ever conceived: the Queaz-Away bracelet, a non-chemical solution to seasickness that operates by blocking the sensory canal that causes motion sickness. When these wristbands are properly worn, it is physically impossible to get seasick.

Q - What about life jackets and other safety equipment?

A - All FishingNosara.com are equipped with adult life jackets for all anglers and crew. Please make arrangements for a children's size life jacket if necessary. In addition, all boats are equipped with radios, cell phones, flares, and all other required safety equipment. All boats are registered and certified seaworthy by the Office of the Costa Rican Harbor Master.

Q - Why only one large Cuberra Snapper per day?

A - Because a 40+lbs. Cuberra is believed 25 years old; 60+lbs. is thought to be over 40 years old. Like most fisherman, we are conservationists at heart and we don't want to run out of these prehistoric beasts.

Q - Do I have to be strong to catch a Marlin?

A - No, very little strength is needed as long as you have the proper tackle, equipment, and crew; that's why you came to us, right? You must be able to sustain the fight for up to 25 minutes, but the Captain and crew can provide small rest periods through their boat-handling skills throughout the fight. You will be amazed how quickly you can catch the fish of a lifetime.

Q - How long does a marlin fight last?

A - On boats that know how to catch marlin, surprisingly short. The marlin battle consists of three elements: angler, tackle, and boat. When all three are used properly the fight is over very quickly for the safety of both the angler and fish. A long fight stresses the fish and increases the risk of injury; We attempt to live release ALL Marlin and Sailfish, so the right tackle and tactics are essential.

Q - Can we extend our day?

A - By all means! If the boat you're on doesn't have a booking, you can pay the Captain directly or contact the FishingNosara.com Costa Rica office from the boat and extend your fishing trip right on the spot.

Non-Fishing Activities Q - Is fishing all there it to do on the boats?

A - Of course not! Many clients have enjoyed snorkeling, sightseeing, surfing, and dolphin watching from our boats. The surrounding vistas of 10,000 ft. mountains plunging into crystal blue waters is a show unto itself. Also our boats are rigged for comfort and stylish cruising, with FM stereo systems, fresh water, food, and most boats have private restrooms. We strive to accommodate our clients in any way possible...it's the Costa Rican way!

Take Home Your Fish Q - Can I take the fish home with me?

A - Of course you can! The crew will fillet and bag you catch for you and keep it on ice until your return to shore. Every Nosara Paradise Rental is equipped with a suitable kitchen for your dinner, plus most of the local restaurants will prepare your catch in any conceivable fashions. Naturally, all Sailfish and Marlin are live released but you can chow down on all the Dorado, Tuna, and Wahoo you've ever wanted.
